S3A Measurement Parameters

Explore the measurements used by the S3A to provide a repeatable view of activated-sludge concentration, settlement and separation behaviour.

Explore every S3A parameter.

Each guide explains what the result represents, when it is produced and how it fits into the complete S3A settlement-analysis workflow.

01 / MLSS

Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids

Measure MLSS from a compact 210 ml activated-sludge sample in approximately 10 seconds, within the specified 50 to 6,500 mg/L range.

02 / SVI

Sludge Volume Index

Relate the settled sludge volume to MLSS concentration after the unattended 30-minute settlement test.

03 / SSL

Settled Sludge Level

Record the volume occupied by activated sludge after the S3A completes its 30-minute settlement cycle.

04 / SPNT

Supernatant Clarity

Assess the solids remaining above the settled sludge after the completed settlement cycle.

05 / FS

Floating Sludge

Record an indication of sludge floating or rising during the unattended 30-minute settlement test.

06 / Optional stirrer

Optional Stirred Parameters

Add SSVI and SSSL measurement capability when the optional stirrer module is fitted to the S3A.

Extend the S3A workflow with the optional stirrer.

The optional stirrer enables Stirred Sludge Volume Index and Stirred Settled Sludge Level. SSVI and SSSL are not available from the standard unstirred S3A workflow.
