Monitor concentration and settlement together.
Suspended-solids concentration is important, but it does not show how the sludge settles or what remains above the settled layer. The S3A brings those connected observations into one sample-based test.

Build a repeatable operating route.
Useful monitoring depends on representative sampling, a suitable measurement range and consistent comparison. Define these parts of the route before interpreting changes in the result.
Choose a sampling point
Use a safe point that represents the mixed liquor being assessed. Return to the same location for routine comparisons and record when operating cycles may affect the sample.
Confirm the range
The S3A has a specified MLSS range of 50 to 6,500 mg/L with stated accuracy of ±10%. Compare the expected process range, including unusual conditions, with that specification.
Keep the test method consistent
Use the same sample preparation and identify whether results are from unstirred SVI or the optional stirred SSVI method. Changes in method can obscure the trend being reviewed.
From sample to a connected result.
The S3A uses one representative 210 ml sample. It reports MLSS first, then continues the 30-minute settlement cycle while the operator carries on with other routine work.
01 / Begin with MLSS
A rapid concentration check
The analyser provides an MLSS result in approximately 10 seconds. Review it against the treatment works’ established operating range and wider process information.
02 / Complete settlement
A 30-minute unattended cycle
The completed test records SVI, settled sludge level, supernatant clarity and floating sludge. Read the measurements together rather than treating one result as a diagnosis.
Apply the result to the process context.
The S3A is intended for activated-sludge wastewater treatment, including conventional plants, sequencing batch reactors, membrane bioreactors and Anammox processes, where the sample falls within the instrument specification.
Sampling time, location and operating condition matter. The S3A supports safe-area operational checks; it is not a continuous online analyser or a replacement for required compliance sampling and laboratory analysis.
Continue through the connected S3A evidence.
Use the product, parameter and sampling pages to define the measurement route and decide whether the S3A fits the treatment works’ existing operating procedure.
